Less TV, More Reading

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to cut back on television and be more disciplined in reading. I actually don’t watch that much TV, but I’ve decided that I did spend a little too much time in front of “the tube” in ’06.

Many of the pastors that I admire have a common characteristic–they are avid
readers. They go through books faster than I go through slurpees (well, not that fast, but you get my point). The writers that I admire have this same quality–they quote numerous authors, which tells me they read all the time.

I do read, but I want to be more disciplined about it. I plan to do more Bible reading as well as other Christian books.

Right now I’m reading through The Jesus I Never Knew by Yancey (great book so far). I’m also re-reading Prayer: Finding The Heart’s True Home by Richard Foster. This may be the best book about prayer that I’ve ever read and I need to go through it again (I originally read this a few years back). About a chapter a day is all I can “handle” with Foster’s book–I’m afraid I will not absorb it well if I go any faster. Foster is one of my all-time favorites–his depth is incredible.

So anyone else made New Year’s resolutions? Feel free to post and tell us about it.
