Very good question! It seems the “miracle” you are talking about is the miraculous healing of someone who is sick (maybe with a serious illness).
The Bible says a lot about miracles of healing, especially in the Gospels and in the Book of Acts. It seems obvious to me that we serve a God who does miracles! The book of James tells us something that should be done for the sick:
James 5
14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
Because of Scriptures like this, some actually teach that a Christian should never get sick. It is important, however, to be balanced when we study the Scriptures. There are also instances in the Bible where sickness is mentioned and it seems that God did not heal the afflicted person:
1 Timothy 5:23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
2 Timothy 4:20 Erastus stayed in Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick in Miletus.
Here Paul mentions two who were sick and were not healed supernaturally.
So how should we pray? Honestly I think we do not have enough faith in God’s healing power. When I pray for the sick I ask God to heal the person. Sometimes I lay hands on the sick when I pray. Does God always grant my request? No, but I know I can trust Him no matter what.
About your next question: “Do you think it is fair for someone to get sick without any reason?”
Do I think it is fair? No. The Bible, however, does not tell us that life is fair. There is a book in the Old Testament called Job. Job was a righteous man, yet he lost his children, his money, and even his health. Job complained to God about his circumstances. God finally answered him in chapter 38. God never answers the question of “why.” He simply explains that He is the creator of the universe and does not need Job’s advice.
There is another passage of Scripture that encourages me greatly:
Romans 5:8 But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful.
If we want to understand how much God loves us, we simply need to look to the cross. Good and bad things will happen to me in my life. One thing that will never change—Jesus Christ loved me so much that He died for me. That is how I know God loves me.
